Our Process

How Slabs & Pads Works

01

Assess & Estimate

We visit your property, discuss the intended use (shed, RV, hot tub, etc.), measure the area, and determine the correct thickness, reinforcement, and finish. You get a clear written estimate.

02

Excavation & Prep

The area is excavated to the correct depth, graded for drainage, and compacted. Forms are set level and square, and gravel base is added where needed.

03

Reinforce & Pour

Rebar or wire mesh is placed based on load requirements. Concrete is poured, screeded to a level surface, and finished with the appropriate texture — broom, smooth trowel, or non-slip.

04

Cure & Cleanup

Curing compound is applied for New Mexico's dry conditions. Forms are removed, the site is cleaned, and we confirm the finished slab meets your project specifications.

Why Choose Us

Why Our Slabs & Pads Stands Out

Need a level, solid surface for a shed, RV, hot tub, workshop, or piece of equipment? Sombrero Construction pours concrete slabs and pads built to support the load and last for decades in New Mexico's climate. Every slab project is different. A hot tub pad requires a thicker pour and specific load-bearing capacity. An RV pad needs to be wide enough, long enough, and graded for drainage. A workshop floor may need a smooth trowel finish instead of broom texture. We assess each project's requirements, specify the correct thickness and reinforcement, and pour a slab that does the job right. From small equipment pads to full garage floors, we handle everything — site prep, forming, reinforcement, pour, finish, and cleanup. Whether you're building a new driveway in Rio Rancho, adding a patio in Corrales, pouring a slab in Albuquerque's North Valley, or installing a block wall in Bernalillo — our crew knows the local soil, climate, and building requirements and delivers quality results on every project.

Slabs & Pads

Built to Spec

Every slab is poured to the right thickness and reinforcement for its intended load — whether that's a lightweight shed, a heavy hot tub, or a full-size RV.

Proper Drainage

Slabs are graded to shed water away from structures and foundations. No puddles, no pooling, no water damage to your shed, workshop, or equipment.

Quick Turnaround

Most residential slabs and pads are formed and poured in a single day. You can typically place a shed or lightweight equipment after 5–7 days of curing.

Straightforward Pricing

Slab pricing is based on size, thickness, and access. No hidden fees or surprise upcharges. You know the cost before we start.

FAQ

Common Questions About Slabs & Pads

A standard shed slab is 4 inches thick with wire mesh reinforcement, poured on a compacted gravel base. Heavier buildings or workshops may require 5–6 inches with rebar. We'll assess your specific shed and recommend the right specs.

Most RV pads are 12–16 feet wide and 40–55 feet long, depending on your RV size. We recommend adding a few extra feet on each side for access. We'll measure your RV and recommend the ideal pad dimensions during the estimate.

Permit requirements vary depending on the size, purpose, and location of the slab. Larger structures like garages and workshops typically require permits. We can advise you on local requirements during the estimate.

Hot tub pads are typically 4–6 inches thick with rebar reinforcement, depending on the tub's filled weight. A filled hot tub can weigh 3,000–6,000 lbs. We'll spec the slab based on your specific hot tub model and weight.

Lightweight prefab sheds can typically be placed after 5–7 days. Heavier structures should wait the full 28-day cure for maximum strength. We'll give you specific timing recommendations based on your project.

Yes. Sloped lots may require additional excavation, grading, or a step-down design. We'll assess the slope during the estimate and factor in any extra site prep needed to provide a level finished surface.

Yes. We pour garage floors, workshop floors, and carport slabs. Garage floors are typically 4–6 inches thick with rebar reinforcement and a smooth or broom finish. Expansion joints and proper drainage are included.
